Filtration

Filtration

Increasingly there is a risk of flooding affecting millions of people worldwide. This global occurrence of major coastal and river flooding events requires geosynthetics to play an increasingly important role in creating solutions in the attempt to provide enhanced protection of our fragile environment.

A primary benefit of TERRAM® geosynthetics is their proven performance in terms of hydrocarbon entrapmentand treatment.

Typical applications include:

  • Permeable Pavements
  • Wrapping Infiltration Structures
  • Coastal Erosion Protection
  • Scour Control
  • Green Roofs
  • Grass Paved Areas

Geotextiles make it possible to treat filtration and drainage as two entirely separate issues. Whatever the application a geotextile correctly specified according to its hydraulic properties will generate a filter zone preventing small particles passing through causing issues such as siltation.

Modern engineered geotextiles can go beyond simply filtering fines from the system. Within the TERRAM range there are geotextiles specifically developed to filter pollutants in the fluids passing through preventing them from entering the underlying soils and contaminating groundwater. In the right circumstances some of these pollutants can be degraded to safe elements by naturally occurring microbes.

It is the increasing knowledge of geotextile performance and the ability to manufacturer with greater accuracy that has led to the increasing use of TERRAM geotextiles in ever more complex drainage solutions.

Terram Geocomposites can play an important role in your filtration application providing drainage, reinforcement or separation to the design.

Terram has a broad range of 'off the shelf' geocomposite products to cover most applications. However we are proud of our ability to manufacture bespoke products to suit specific applications for your project.

Bespoke manufacturing is a new approach to manufacturing geosynthetics that harnesses our extensive knowledge of a wide range of geosynthetic solutions and marries their specific properties to solve your problem.

Geotextiles, geogrids and geomembranes are just some of the products that have combined into geocomposite products answering the specific problems of our customers; whether it be soil reinforcement, ground stabilisation, filtration, drainage, protection or erosion control.

Our technical development team will work with you to develop your bespoke solution in our facility in South Wales. The product is developed to your specification then tested to ensure product performance before being signed off for use in your application. If you're not sure what specification you need then our technical team will work with you to understand the problem before developing the solution.

Geosynthetics make it possible to treat filtration and drainage as two entirely separate issues. Whilst the inclusion of a geotextile is now common practice as a filtration media other geosynthetic products may also be included in to enhance the performance of the overall design.

Geocells can be included in filtration systems in a number of applications. Applications include strengthening the free drain sub-base often included within filtration designs, preventing the lateral migration of fines within soils and retaining filtration media.

It is the increasing knowledge of geocell performance and the ability to manufacturer with greater accuracy that has led to the increasing use of TERRAM geotextiles in ever more complex filtration solutions.
